FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Natural & Clean Body Care Products

We believe in transparency, education, and setting realistic expectations when it comes to truly natural body care. Below you’ll find answers to our most commonly asked questions.

Are your products truly natural and non-toxic?

Yes. Our products are made with thoughtfully selected plant and animal-based ingredients, without synthetic fragrances, parabens, phthalates, aluminum, or harsh preservatives. If you’re searching for truly natural, non-toxic body care products, our formulas are designed to support a clean, health-concious lifestyle. We prioritize ingredients that are effective, gentle, and aligned with a low-tox lifestyle.

Why does my shea butter product feel grainy or textured?

Graininess is most common in products containing shea butter and other natural butters. This is a well-known characteristic of raw and unrefined shea butter used in natural skincare. Shea butter is rich in fatty acids that can crystallize when exposed to temperature changes (such as warming during shipping or cooling too quickly).

This is purely a cosmetic issue and does not affect the quality, safety, or effectiveness of the product. This issue is most commonly found in our deodorant cream, as it does contain a high amount of shea butter.

Tip: If the texture bothers you, gently warm the product by placing it in a warm room or rubbing a small amount between your hands before applying. You can also place in a water bath until liquid (being careful not to introduce water into the jar!), or alternately microwave in no more than 10 second intervals until melted, then promptly place in fridge to re-solidify. Note: only products in glass vessels should be remelted.

Why do natural skincare products have a lower melt point?

Natural butters and oils melt at much lower temperatures than synthetic waxes, which is common in natural skincare, clean beauty, and organic body care products. This means products may soften or melt in warm environments, especially during summer months or transit.

This is a normal characteristic of natural formulations and a sign that the product does not contain artificial stabilizers or fillers.

Storage tip: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain ideal texture.

How long do essential oil scents last in natural products?

Essential oils are natural, volatile compounds, so their scent is softer and fades more quickly than synthetic fragrances. This is expected when using essential oil–scented natural products instead of artificial fragrance oils.

  • On skin: scent typically lasts 1–4 hours, depending on the oil and your body chemistry

  • In products like soaps or sprays: scent may be more noticeable during use, then gently dissipates

We intentionally keep our scents light and natural—never overpowering—so they feel grounding and skin-friendly rather than artificial.

Why does the scent seem lighter than conventional or fragranced products?

Synthetic fragrances are engineered to be loud and long-lasting. We use pure essential oils, which offer a more subtle, authentic aroma and additional plant benefits. What you may notice is a scent that feels closer to nature and less perfumey.

Do natural and organic skincare products expire?

Yes—because natural and organic skincare products do not rely on harsh preservatives, they have a shorter shelf life than conventional personal care products.

We use natural preservation methods and careful formulation to ensure safety and freshness.

What is the best-if-used-by date for natural products?

For best quality and performance:

  • Most products: use within 6–12 months of opening

  • Water-free products (balms, deodorant creams): often last closer to 12 months

Always use clean, dry hands when scooping product to extend freshness.

How can I tell if a natural skincare product has gone bad?

Discontinue use if you notice:

  • An unusual or rancid smell

  • Visible mold or discoloration

  • Significant texture changes unrelated to temperature

When in doubt, trust your senses.

Are natural preservatives safe for skincare products?

Yes. Natural preservatives are chosen to inhibit microbial growth while remaining gentle on the skin. They are commonly derived from plants or naturally occurring compounds and are used at safe, effective levels.

Are your natural products safe for sensitive skin?

Our formulas are designed to be gentle and nourishing, but everyone’s skin is unique. We always recommend patch testing, especially if you have sensitivities or allergies.
