If you’re reading this, you’ve likely already made the switch to natural deodorant, or you’re at least thinking about it. Congrats to you for making the health-conscious decision to switch to a more natural skincare routine. Your skin and body will thank you! That being said, switching from a commercial, chemical-laden deodorant to a natural one isn’t always a smooth transition. Many suffer from the dreaded “detox phase.” Don’t let this turn you back on to your previous deo! We have some tips to help you with this process.
What happens when you stop using deodorant with aluminum?
Most commercial deodorants use a variety of artificial ingredients that keep your pits odor free and possibly sweat free too, if you’ve been using an antiperspirant. Aluminum salts that are used in commercial deodorants actually clog your pores and sweat glands to keep you from sweating. When you stop using these deodorants, your pits are finally able to sweat again, which is a good thing! However, this can give you some initial irritation. Just think- all of the toxins, bacteria, and aluminum buildup are finally being released through your sweat. If you can get through this potentially nasty phase (and you can), you will surely reap the long-term health benefits of doing so.
Can you detox your armpits?
When you discontinue the use of commercial deodorant, your pits will start to detox naturally, which can cause underarm irritation and/or a rash. While this reaction will eventually resolve on its own, there are ways you can help this process along, which will be outlined below.
How do you detox your armpits?
Ideally, one would start an armpit detox before making the full switch to a natural deodorant. This is the best way to avoid rash and irritation. But if you’ve already made the switch, don’t fret! We have a great recipe HERE to get your pits in top shape!
How do you use natural deodorant to detox your armpits?
Ditching your commercial deodorant is going to put your armpits into detox mode, as you are no longer applying those ingredients that clog and suppress your pores and sweat glands. Many natural deodorants contain ingredients that help rid your armpits of toxins and odors. Instead of your typical propylene glycol, parabens and aluminum, they utilize natural ingredients like bentonite clay, arrowroot or tapioca powder, baking soda, and in our case- magnesium hydroxide. Read more HERE about why baking soda is not an ingredient in our deodorant.
